Hey guys,
I’m gigging quite a bit at the moment, which is great. Unfortunately for most musicians in New Zealand, the Rugby World Cup 2011 isn’t bringing as much work as we would have hoped. On the plus side, though, I am doing quite a bit more writing for some other artists (I never seem to get time to write for me these days!!), and we are getting some positive results.
In other news, I am seriously considering a move to Vancouver. My good friend and producer, Jonathan Campbell, is heading over there soon, and it seems as if there are some fantastic opportunities waiting in that larger market. It’s great, yet terrifying to think that I am potentially going to move to another country and start from zero. I have worked hard and built up a solid reputation here in New Zealand, but sometimes one needs to exorcise themselves from their comfort zones to really move forward, so hopefully that’s what I’m doing. The initial plan is to go for three months and see how I feel about gigs / writing etc. If it doesn’t work out, at least I’ve bought a return ticket
I think Vancouver will be a healthy change; if nothing else comes of it, hopefully locking myself in a tiny apartment for three months will bring to life some great songs. I’ve learned an awful lot about this industry since moving to New Zealand, so it will be interesting to see how these lessons translate to a much bigger market.
Hopefully my gigs page will be just as full for Vancouver! I will keep you all updated on how the move is going etc.
Best,
Andrew
