Update

Hey guys,

I’m gigging quite a bit at the moment, which is great. Unfortunately for most musicians in New Zealand, the Rugby World Cup 2011 isn’t bringing as much work as we would have hoped. On the plus side, though, I am doing quite a bit more writing for some other artists (I never seem to get time to write for me these days!!), and we are getting some positive results.

In other news, I am seriously considering a move to Vancouver. My good friend and producer, Jonathan Campbell, is heading over there soon, and it seems as if there are some fantastic opportunities waiting in that larger market. It’s great, yet terrifying to think that I am potentially going to move to another country and start from zero. I have worked hard and built up a solid reputation here in New Zealand, but sometimes one needs to exorcise themselves from their comfort zones to really move forward, so hopefully that’s what I’m doing. The initial plan is to go for three months and see how I feel about gigs / writing etc. If it doesn’t work out, at least I’ve bought a return ticket :)

I think Vancouver will be a healthy change; if nothing else comes of it, hopefully locking myself in a tiny apartment for three months will bring to life some great songs. I’ve learned an awful lot about this industry since moving to New Zealand, so it will be interesting to see how these lessons translate to a much bigger market.

Hopefully my gigs page will be just as full for Vancouver! I will keep you all updated on how the move is going etc.

Best,

Andrew

Anna Wilson Single 2

Evening Everyone,

Just finished up writing on Anna Wilson‘s second single, tentatively called ‘Flying High’. It’s already sounding fantastic even at the demo stage, so I’m very excited to see what producer Jonathan Campbell will do with it. As soon as a proper demo is finished (without my pitch shifted vocals!!) I’ll put it up on my writing page. I’m off to play the song to a live audience tonight to see what the reaction is!

Richard Branson Dinner

Good evening!

I received some fantastic news the other day – thanks to the lovely, lovely people at Duco Events I am going to be performing live with my fantastic band at the Richard Branson Dinner in Auckland on October 20th 2011. It will be toward the end of the Rugby World Cup, which will be an insane time of year for little old New Zealand. I am thrilled to be part of the evening’s entertainment and to perform for Sir Richard; I’ll be doing a showcase of original material as well as some covers during the main course. New Zealand music legend Dave Dobbyn will also be performing with his band later in the evening. It’s already shaping up to be a fantastic night, so head on over to the Duco website to grab your tickets now!!

Single #2 is finished!

Hey everyone,

It’s been a lot of work but single #2 is finally finished. You can listen to Broken here. I’d love to hear what you guys think of the new track. It was written by me; produced by Jonathan Campbell and Simon Holloway and has the intrepid Anna Wilson on backing vocals. I’d also like to thank Simon Moore, Dan Antunovich and Pat Kuhtze for lending their fantastic musicianship to the track.

Hope everyone is well!

Andrew

Thanks for your support

A big thank you to all who bought the single and who are continuing to promote it through social networks. You guys are awesome!! While we didn’t reach the desired NZ Top 40 (which was a fairly ambitious task for a debut single), She Waits topped the NZ iTunes singer / songwriter charts no less than five times during last week! Also the music video is currently sitting as the 18th most played video on music channel 63. All in all, quite impressive for the first week. We’re pitching to radio stations and as airplay grows, so will the following. I want to thank all of you here at the ground level. I cannot fully express my appreciation to you all for your support. You guys seriously rock!!

She Waits released

She Waits is the debut single from Auckland-based singer/songwriter Andrew Mockler. Written in 2007, the song was awarded a New Recording Artist grant the following year. Trained in both jazz and classical, Andrew spent time at London’s College of Music. His big break came when showcasing songs at an event attended by Sting’s manager Dave Sandford, who quickly assumed the role of mentor, offering encouragement to Andrew’s growing repertoire.

She Waits was recorded at Beaver Studios, with the accompanying video shot in Moscow. Andrew has a series of shows scheduled in Auckland for the upcoming months.
